How to Become a Top Performing Retail Employee

How to Become a Top Performing Retail EmployeeHow to Become a Top Performing Retail EmployeeMy first job out of college was in retail, and it was a humbling experience for me. As a confident new grad with my fancy bachelors degree, I didnt expect to find myself folding sweaters full-time. But I ended up gaining a lot of skills during my time in the retail world. I uncovered the abilities that I needed to succeed in my role as a front-line retail worker, which are valuable to any occupation and position. Whether youre a student going back to school and looking for a part-time or seasonal retail job, or youre already a retail employee trying to get promoted, these are the essential habits of top-performing retail employees.Keep on top of product knowledge If theres one skill you need in retail, its a thorough understanding of product knowledge. How can you sell something you know nothing about? Remembering products, their materials, qualities, store availability, alternative products a nd complementary products is essential. Many sales associates are assigned to a section, division or font of product. Study the products you sell. This not only makes your job easier, but it boosts confidence with customers who ask you for help. It bodes well with management, too. If you can market your products well, it says that you are knowledgeable and hold yourself accountable.Use your tech savvinessWe are no longer in the Stone Age. Today the average retail worker is equipped with many tools, from walkie-talkies to the point-of-sale system to the inventory software program. Learning these technologies makes you both an efficient employee and a well-rounded one. You present yourself as reliable for a variety of tasks, from ringing up customers to assisting the store manager with inventory management. What is the best way to get promoted? Go above and beyond to learn all the tools.Keep track of the schedule Its foolish for a student or working professional to not keep a calendar of deadlines and top priorities. The retail employee would be careless to ignore store events and company announcements such as the introduction of new products, inventory deliveries and layout changes. You may not be involved in all of the store changes, but you want to be aware of them. Knowing what happens around your store allows you to understand where products are or have moved to, what promotions are happening or have expired, the stock levels for various items and when to expect new inventory. Tracking store happenings makes it easier to know your priorities as well as serve your customers.Read and react to customer behavior Body language, expressions and tone of voice are all indicators of what your customers are thinking. If you can decipher these clues you can know your customers. Youll know which ones dont want to be helped or which dont mind assistance when offered. Youll be able to identify which can be upsold and which cant. Look at your customers body language and p ay attention to the tone of their voice when they speak to you. Attention to body language also can prevent a situation from escalating.Keep up appearancesIm not just referring to proper attire and hygiene. Its about serving that customer who insists that you check the inventory for an out-of-season item. If theres one thing a customer cant forgive, its poor customer service. Even if you know that a color is no longer in stock, or if youre positive that store policies state no refunds without a receipt, you totenstill want to go through the motions as if youre going to check the stock room or confirm the policy with the retail supervisor. If a customer doesnt see you take action on a request then they assume you dont care. So put your attitude away and replace it with a smile. If you can win customers over, you can win extra points on your evaluation.

5 Common Mindsets That Get in the Way of You and Your Dreams

5 Common Mindsets That Get in the Way of You and Your Dreams5 Common Mindsets That Get in the Way of You and Your DreamsWhats that one big dream you have for your life?Is it to build your own business? Scaleyour company globally? Continuously advance in your organization and become an executive? Sell your company and then be able to invest and help other peoplebuild their dreams?Does it include meeting that partner you can build a life with? Or, perhaps packingup and moving somewhere you have always dreamed of?One thing I have learned in my work is that everyone has their own very unique dream.I probedone of my clients- a talented and successful37-year-old graphicdesigner with her own design company- onwhat her long-term professional geistesbild and dream for the future was.Without hesitation, shetold me My dream is to have a petting zoo. I love animals and I want to be able to bring joy to peoples lives through animals.Petting zoo was quite definitelythe most unique answer I had eve r received. While this happened to be my clients retirement dream, why notlagestart making that dream arealitynow? Many of us get locked into mindsets that dictate what we think weshoulddo or what or how we think we should be- you know- according tosociety, culture, or family. We have the propensity to take those outside pressures, internalize them, and then impose them on ourselves. But, you can learn to let go of these stifling? mindsetsto truly live andlead authentically. Most people are held back bymore than one of these mindsets, but usually oneis more pronounced than the others. This is the mindset you should attack getting rid offirst.1. People PleasingMindsetYou have aconstant need to pleaseand be liked by others. You dont speak up and voice your true opinion out offear of not being liked or not pleasing others.BarrierYou dont take risks because you fear what others will think of you. You dont speak up and offer your difference of opinionin a meeting, and your company ends up maki ng a big mistake. You often commit to too much, and you feel aconstant sense ofoverwhelm.ActionAs a recovering people-pleaser myself, Ill tell you what has helped me let go of this mindset. Start with blurting out whats actually on your mind. Ditch the people-pleasing filter. And,start playing what I call The Disappointment Game. Practice disappointing someone every day.I am not suggesting that you goaround being a jerk, but instead I want you to start operating in a way that is true to yourself, which in turn might happen to disappoint some people along the way. This could meansaying no to social commitments or that non-required project at work.2. ComparisonMindsetYou constantlycompare yourself to others. You say things to yourself like, Shes smarter than me, They are so muchmore creative than me, or Hecan do it better than me.BarrierBy constantly comparing yourself to others, you punishand put yourself down. You do not take risks because you have convinced yourself that others can do it better than you. So, you watchother peopleachieveyourdreams.ActionStart keeping a tally on how many times per day you find that you compare yourself to others. Awareness is the first step to squashing this mindset.3. Rule FollowingMindsetYoufeel the need to constantly follow the rules. You do what you think you shoulddo, not always what youwantto do. In fact, you maynot even know what youwant.BarrierYou keep your ideas to yourself because they might go against the grain and break the rules. You are scared to stand out, so you stay small. You maintain the status quo.ActionIntentionally break a rule every day. Im not suggesting engaging in illegal or illicit behavior, but make a point to break a social norm every day. For example, if your social norm is going with the flow, be the leader in the group and offer your opinion before anyone else.4. PerfectionismMindsetYou feel the constant need to strive forperfection and for your life to appear perfect.BarrierYou dont take risks out of fear you will make a mistake or you wont do it perfectly. This is a self-destructive and addictive mindset with anunattainable goalperfection. You hide behindthe constant striving for perfection, which prevents the world fromseeingyou for who you truly are- imperfections and all.ActionFirst take these words fromDr.BrenBrownto heart Understanding the difference between healthy striving and perfectionism is critical to laying down the shield and picking up your life. Research shows that perfectionism hampers success. In fact, its often the path to depression, anxiety, addiction, and life paralysis. Then watch Dr. Browns Ted Talk,The Power of Vulnerabilityand read her bookThe Gifts of Imperfection Let Go of Who You Think Youre Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are.5. WorkaholicismMindset You work all the time and do not take time for yourself. You think you need to constantly work to prove yourself and to live up to the expectations of others. Your work defines you. You are burnt out or at the brink of burnout.Barrier Your personal life suffers. You may work to avoid feeling lonely. You dont live in the moment because even when you are not at work, you are thinking about your work. Your relationships suffer. You might be stuck in a career or job that you dont even realize you dontreally like because you have never takentime for self-reflection.ActionStart with self-care. Book a massage, go for a run, plan a dinner with a friend, take a spontaneous weekend trip. Start by doing something one time perweek that is just for you and not work related. When you are ready, start makingsure you do something for yourself every day.More From Inc.Science Says You Shouldnt Work More Than This Number of Hours a WeekHeres a Sandwich Recipe to Revolutionize Your At-Work LunchThis 10-Minute Routine Is the Ultimate Mind Cleanse

Too Many Passions 9 Ways to Determine Which One Should Be Your Career

Too Many Passions 9 Ways to Determine Which One Should Be Your Career Article by YECIt can be difficult to find your way when you have a million interests tugging at your soul. They all seem like waiting opportunities, but which one is the right path for you? When you try to singleout just one passion to build a career around, you may feel like you are giving up other key interests. You may also struggle with whether to chose the best possible option of all the ones availableorsomething less fulfilling but more likely to work out.So, how do you make a decision? To figure that out, we asked members of Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC) for some advice on how tofind your calling when you have a wide range of interestscompeting for your attention. Heres what they had to say1. Focus on What Keeps Coming BackTake notice of the interest that keeps coming back fruchtwein often. For instance, if youre really interested in painting and playing the guitar but you find yourself reaching for the paintbrush more often, that might be a sign its your true calling. John Turner, SeedProd LLC2. Jump InThe only way to know which passion you should pursue is to try them all. Pick one and go for it. If you dont enjoy it, move on to the next one.If you find one you like, do the others as side hustlesor hobbies. In todays world, there are plenty of opportunities to dabble in multiple activities. Zach Binder, Bell + Ivy3. Try Month-Long ExperimentsThere is no need to find your one true calling if you enjoy learning about multiple topics. But if you really want to explore your passions, schedule a month of deep focus on one topic. Meet with people in the industry or role. Read every relevant newsletter and book. Wake up early and work on the topic. After 20 or 30 days of intense study, give yourself permission to double down or drop it. Aaron Schwartz, Passport4. Stay PatientPassion isnt something you can just learn one day. When someone is passionate a bout something, it happens naturally. If youre not passionate about any of your interests, you should consider just relaxing and learning more about yourself over time while discovering new interests. Let passion find you. David Henzel, LTVPlus5. Ask OthersAsk others in your circle what they think you are best at and most enthusiastic about. What do they consider your biggest strengths? Which interest causes your eyes to light up when you talk to them about it? This feedback is valuable when you are not sure yourself. Serenity Gibbons, NAACP6. Do NothingIf youre unsure of your true calling, theres one surefire way to find it Take some time to do absolutely nothing no work, no hobbies, just complete, aimless freedom. Whatever activities or interests seem the most appealing to you in this period of time are probably things youre passionate about, and it would be smart for you to pursue that path in your professional and/or personal life. Bryce Welker, Beat The CPA7. Stay AgileIf y ou have not yet discovered your particular niche, focus your career on a wide range of interests. By exploring multiple interests, you will gain more experience and could possibly find your calling during the process. If not, at least you will have a wide range of experiences and be better positioned to remain agile until you find your true passion. Matthew Podolsky, Florida Law Advisers, P.A.8. Do Your ResearchIf you have many interests but no clear passion, maybe its time to dive a little deeper. Take your time to research and experience the full range of your interests. If at any point you think to yourself, Id rather not do this, then its probably not your calling. If youre finding the information fascinating, then focus on that and see how passionate you really feel. Anthony Saladino, Kitchen Cabinet Kings9. Look ElsewhereSometimes your general interests are simply not meant to be your passion. If youre not devoted enough to invest full time in one of your interests, perhaps its time you departure researching other topics and niches in order to find something you are truly passionate about. Some people spend their entire lives looking for something that inspires passion. Dont give up. The Stealth-Guide to Getting Your Resume Noticed

The Stealth-Guide to Getting Your Resume NoticedThe Stealth-Guide to Getting Your Resume NoticedThese days, when applying for a job, its pretty hard to get your resume noticed. You have to fill in a long application and submit your resume, which is then put in a giant stack with the rest of them. The resume, which youve worked on for hours and reviewed 100 times until its perfect, gets a six-second look from the hiring manager. Then its never seen again. And that makes sense if you had 50 resumes on your desk, you wouldnt spend a lot of time reviewing each of them meticulously. Despite that, theres a real and relatively unknownway to get your resume noticed. What if we told you that you could just beipass the whole 5-6 page online application process? How, you ask? Well, You just go to the recruiter, talk to them, and give the resume to them directly. Sounds really simple, right? Then why havent you tried it yet?The first step is to find the recruiters contact details, and whats a b etter place to look than LinkedIn. Just Google Company name, Region, Recruiter. Now, depending on the size of the company, someone working in Talent Management doesnt necessarily mean theyre in charge of hiring. Thats why try to also check in their work summary whether theyre the ones recruiting or not. Now that you know who youre dealing with, you can send them a Linkedin Mail. (Which theyre probably just going to overlook, and thats not what we want.) So what you should be looking for is their work e-mail. Most of the time, you can find it in the Contact Me section on Linkedin. If the email isnt there, another vorkaufsrecht is trying to Google their name. Youll probably come across their work email somewhere, or try to find their Facebook/Blog for the personal one. Didnt work? Dont worry, we have some other tricks up our sleeves. Try downloading Rapportive. It a chrome extension that shows you information about the person you are emailing to. Companies usually use the same email f ormat for all of their employees, something like name lastname company. You can easily find an email of someone else working there, and use the same format. Didnt work? Trial and error try experimenting with different formats, such as Last name or last name first name until Rapportive confirms it. After you get some luck with one of our advice, send them an email explaining why you want to work for them. The fact that you went through all the effort to get hired in a certain company shows determination, a trait that every employer loves. If you want to take it a level higher, go for the CEO. Their e-mail addresses can be a bit trickier to find, but you can probably handle it with the above mentioned method. CEOs are considerably busy, so they might just overlook your e-mail, or even send it to the trash. Thats why the next step could be tracking them down and meet them in person. This is probably nigh-impossible for a large corporation, but for startups, to mid-level companies, it can work perfectly. CEOs are usually known to lurk 4 different places. The office, some conference, some event or some talk. So, just go by the office, and mention that you need to talk to them. binnensee, regardless of the character of the CEO, theyll see that youre determined, much more than any other candidate. At the least, youll have a much higher chance of getting your resume noticed itll be THE resume, not just one of out a bunch. In some cases, this might not work, especially if youre highly under-skilled for the job, or if you act a bit too cocky but remove those two factors, and youre pretty much a shoo-in.Liked this method? Resume Tips for Marketing Managers

Resume Tips for absatzwirtschaft Managers Resume Tips for Marketing Managers To get you stspeciesed, here are some tips for creating the best resume for a marketing manager.1. Choose the Right FormattingThe traditional format for resumes is the chronological resume that lists jobs and duties in chronological reservierung. While a lot of job seekers use this format, your job activities may be similar in many jobs, and it can get boring fast. You can use the functional resume format that highlights your skills and job activities rather than simply listing your previous employers. A functional resume focuses your activities and achievements into areas, and you can expand on what youre best at within those areas.2. Remember VisualsAs a marketing expert, you know how important visuals can be to getting your message out there, and the same is true for your resume. You want your resume to be easy to read while also highlighting your industry experience and marketing skills. To do this, yo u should use one font throughout your resume and a clean layout that will make it easy to read, and then also use bolding, bullet points and italics to highlight your skills and achievements.3. Focus Your ResumeJust like every applicant isnt right for one job, the same resume isnt right for every position. In order to get hired for a specific position, you should focus your resume on that company and how you can fulfill their marketing needs. As well as tailoring your resume to each position, you should also make sure and only include relevant experience or skills. Your resume shouldnt just show that youre a great marketing manager, but that you are the right marketing manager for the job.4. Include ResultsMarketing is a results oriented field, and you want your resume to reflect that. Dont just list companies and what you did while you worked for them. Show the results of your marketing campaigns or projects you managed in hard numbers and statistics. When you highlight your result s, you are providing a track record of your achievements and proving that you will work just as hard for another company.5. Show Breadth of ExperienceSince marketing managers can work in various different industries, you might have to explain a bit about each company you have worked for on your resume. You dont have to sell your previous employers to your prospective employer, but you should give them some idea of who the company is.6. Go Heavy on DataIncreasingly, marketing management is an analytical function. Hiring managers and executives expect measurable ROI and an advanced understanding of data analysis and market measurement tools. Be sure to highlight your past successes in context of the specific ROI that they delivered as well as listing any and all technologies that you used in campaign creation, delivery, or measurement.7. Include your Marketing IPWhile not every marketing position involves creative development, marketing roles at leastinfluencethe direction of creative campaigns. Marketing professionals have the luxury of having highly tangible projects on their resume. Make sure that you include the specific details about your campaigns include your marketing IP (intellectual property) like slogans, brand statements, messaging, etc It is very import to quantify your impact, but it is as importance for the person reading your resume to understand the emotional impact of the campaigns you managed. Dont be afraid to quote marketing literature and copy that you developed or influenced.Putting together your resume can be a scary thing for a marketing professional you might feel as if people are judging you on the medium of the message as much as your experience itself.
